Reza Najfar comes from an artistically adept family in Teheran.
After studying flute and composition in his home country, he continued his flute and composition studies in Utrecht/Holland with Abbie de Quant and in Vienna with barbara Gisler Haase and Dieter Flury .
He studied composition in his homeland with Morteza Hannaneh, Mehran Rohani and Farid Omran and in Austria at the Academy of music in Vienna with Thomas Christian David and Dieter Schrmann.(Vienna music academy).
As early as in the years of his studies, Reza Najfar worked together with artists such as Geoffry Gilbert, Auréle Nicolet, William Bennett, Peter Lukas Graf and James Galway, some of whom appreciate his cooperation up to now. Already in the years of his studies, he was solo-flautist in the orchestra of the “Vereinigte Bühnen Wiens” for three years.
During his studies he was engaged as a solo-flautist in the Theater Orchestra of Vienna for three years (Vereinigte Bühnen Wien).
His vast repertoire encompasses works from the baroque music to contemporary music containing all major pieces of the general flute repertoire.
Najfar’s œuvre as a composer ranges from solo pieces and songs for various instruments to chamber and orchestral music, music for poems by Sohrab Sepehri, Ahmad Shamlou and Abbas Kiarostami’s Haikus as well as Kiarostami’s last short film “up and down“ as well as music for documentary films.
Reza Najfar is concerts took him to several european countries, Japan and Mexico , USA, South Korea and China and Mexico. He contributed to festivals such as “Österreich heute“, the “Takayma Festival” (Japan) and “Musica e Magia” (Mexico) Japan flute festival in Tokyo and flute festival in Kyoto Japan.
His soloistic work includes a great number of CDs, among others “Divertimento Italiano” and „Serenata Italiano“ with a focus on works by Mauro Giuliani, both published by Koch Records and „Tango Appassionato“ (Novalis) with works of Astor Piazzolla „The Magic Alto Flute“ (La Folia Classics) involves arrangements of Schubert’s songs for alto flute and „The Rare Encore“ (La Folia Classics) which was arranged by him for flute and piano, The Other Chopin for flute and piano (Vienna2day) Slow Motion flute and piano (GreenView Classics). ” Rare Encores” the second volume of Encore pieces for flute and piano.
Reza Najfar leads several international flute courses at home and abroad. Various publishing houses (Metra Sound Europe CH, Eroica Edition Wien, ALSO Publishing Ltd.Japan, Koch Musikverlage Austria, Ries & Erler Berlin , Alphonse Leduc Paris and Universal Edition Vienna and have produced both compositions and educational material by him.
2008 he was awarded by “Persian Golden Lioness Award “ Award of Excellence in Music from the World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media“ in London.
Reza Najfar is a flute soloist composer and professor for flute at the Mozarteum Salzburg (Innsbruck’s Branch) as well as Tiroler Landeskonservatorium Innsbruck since 1992 and the Prayner Konservatorium in Vienna Austria.
